Ways to Handle Holiday Stress

At this time of year, the stress level seems heightened and emotions can, and often do, get the best of us. Shopping becomes a hassle with long lines of impatient customers being assisted by overworked employees. Driving becomes a frustrated maneuver through bumper-to-bumper traffic, only to remain at a standstill after twenty minutes, left to the mercy of the honking horns of other disgruntled drivers. Its important to strive for emotional balance, but it’s difficult when the energy around us is all in a tither with the holiday season. How do we protect ourselves from the negative so that we can remain positive?

I came up with the following things you can do during this time of year. Keep in mind that you can certainly do this at any time and for any reason, but I like to make extra effort at holiday time.

- Put imaginary shields up around your body with mirrors reflecting out. Sort of like the green teleportation tube on the old Star Trek TV Show when they’d say “beam me up, Scottie.” Green being a color of healing and prosperity, it’s a perfect path to protecting your own energy field (aura).

- Make a point of taking meditative moments throughout the day and night, and — especially when you are around a lot of noise or people. Steal away for a moment at a time so you can close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. While taking those breaths, imagine you are inhaling white healing light. You will be surprised at how quickly you will come back to your own energy again. It is a practice that I find works well when I am feeling overwhelmed.

- Meditate, and make it a daily practice. Even if it is just for 10 minutes, this practice will ground you in reason and help you work with your spirit. Meditation is the highest form of self-care, in my opinion, and a very cleansing way to move through life when one uses it as a way of life. There is something very special about focusing on our inner awareness and learning how to think and feel better just by the act of breathing.

So, those are my recommendations. They work for me, so hopefully they will work for you.
