And that's because it is NOT synonymous with that at all. It perhaps relates to you personally, but it also depicts a time in literature when this would have been the norm. However, it is not indicative of today. As an author of three books, and a career in blogging and writing for mainstream media like Huffington Post (past) I feel you are assuming and selling the profession short. If you are going to make a statement like the one above, it would behoove you to say that it is YOUR description of a writer and YOUR personal perspective, and not a generality.
