I walk my little Malti-poo, Gidget, two or three times a day. She is thirteen years old and so we take a short leisurely stroll, and I really don’t mind taking my time. It takes me away from the computer and/or iPad screen and I get to enjoy nature, bond with Gidget and get in some movement myself.

Generally, we walk the same street and rarely cross the road for any reason. I’m one of those people who likes to avoid issues of crossing in traffic. I also avoid other dog walkers who usually venture on the opposite side of the street.

This particular autumn day was crisp, despite the sun, and along the way we saw colorful orange and yellow Mums bursting forth on lawns, leaves of the trees starting to turn colors, and Halloween themes decorating some of the houses in my neighborhood. I thought one house looked particularly interesting. It was across the street from where we were walking. There was a lady standing at the end of the driveway. She was wearing a dress and a long apron over it. I could see that she had short white hair in curls that were combed out, not unlike my grandmother’s back day. Her apron blew to the right, along with the gentle breeze. Gidget stopped to investigate some turf, and I stood there watching the woman for several minutes.

Her apron fluttered, but she did not move.

I squinted and was beginning to think she may be a Halloween poster cutout that someone decorated the front of their house with. As I stood mesmerized, a car pulled up alongside of her and reached an arm over to open the car door. Still, she did not move! The driver slammed the door closed and sped off.

I was more than a little spooked by her, and with a tug on Gidget’s leash, we turned around and started walking back home. I looked back one more time.

She was gone! My eyes darted around quickly to see if she was somewhere nearby, but I didn’t see anyone in the area.

Was she really there? I have some theories. Ghost? Time Traveler? Real person? I have given thought that if she was a spirit/ghost, then the appearance of the car could be the action that took place at the time of her death, and I happened upon that scene of her death as it replayed itself. Here are the photos I took. I am open to anyone who may offer an interpretation.
